Wellness Exams and Vaccines

When your pet is younger, these annual exams give us a chance to prevent disease with appropriate advice on diet, dental care, ear and eye health as well as tailored vaccines. Your dog might need a Kennel Cough vaccine (Bordetella) if he or she goes to the off leash park or a kennel. Your cat might need a Feline Leukemia vaccine if they go outside and are around other cats. The real reason for the visit though is for the exam that our veterinarians will perform to check heart, lungs, weight, teeth, skin, ears and eyes, as they can’t tell us if they have a problem or if they are in pain.

When your pet becomes older and into his or her senior years (this will vary depending on species and breed) exams are even more important and thus we recommend that they be seen every 6 months. Not only are they examined the same as above but diet advice and possible blood work may be advised. This is to catch disease before your senior pet is acting sick.
